More wordy than wordless. Tenerife, my Nemesis!
After our cruise in May 2023 Ivor said I had to have a wheelchair. I knew he was right because my joints were so stiff and painful from the chemo pills that my mobility was badly affected. I didn't want one but couldn't go where I wanted to, so reluctantly agreed.
He made a slalom in the garage (farm garage so it is very big) and I practiced. We went out a few times to get used to it but I really dislike the tiny joystick that doesn't do what I want it to.
Our next cruise was to the Canary Islands and I took the darned thing ashore. The promenade was long and wide and I started to get more confident. We crossed the road and went into the town and then through the arches onto a sandy area. Instead of coming back the way we went we went off to the right of the arches and I was bombing along getting more confident all the time. Then there was the big kerb! I speeded up thinking if I went faster the wheelchair would go up and over it. Wrong! I hit the kerb at top speed which is about 5mph. The wheelchair tipped forward and Ivor grabbed the back before I was thrown out. That wasn't the worst though. The Devil's transport had got stuck on the kerb. Instead of helping me out, Ivor tried unsuccessfully moving it. Next thing, two handsome young Spaniards came running over , lifted the wheelchair with me still in it and freed it.
I was so embarrassed! I didn't intend writing all of this but was looking through my photos for this post. When I saw this one it brought all those awful memories flooding back.
In case anyone is in any doubt, I hate that darned wheelchair! It will be brought out again for our next cruise in July but I think I need a lot of practice before then.
