We love to cruise and this will show our travels. Of course there will also be other photos of non cruise holidays and anything else that takes my fancy.

Wordless Wednesday - Pompoms.
I know it is supposed to be serious but it was the pompoms on the shoes that did it!!
is this like the changing of the guard? I'm guessing there's a significance to the "salute" with the two in the front ? with the pom poms on the shoe; you could at least stub your toe and not have it hurt !! ;) ♥♥
I suppose it's an old tradition with these pompoms. I am curious what is the significance of this outfit. Thank you for the linking and a Happy WW! I wish you a fine week!
On Sundays the whole platoon does it up to the front of the Presidential Palace, with bands and music - goose-step marching with clogs on, and a lot of slapping their footwear down on the pavement (right foot only). Quite a spectacle, and I wonder if I am the only one thinking about how much damage that must be doing to joints and tendons?
I have seen them life ! They really look ridiculous ! Our King has no guards anymore in front of the castle because he thinks that it is too hot or too cold for these poor guys. So no guard change anymore. We all found that very human, except the tourists of course !
I always thought they were guinee pigs on their toes to keep them warm, and marveled how they stuck on so well. Now I know they're pompoms, well, all the charm has quite gone out of it and I won't be enroling in that dance troupe! ;) Purrs ERin

ReplyDeleteSometimes those uniforms on such serious people just beg for laughter!
ReplyDeleteYes, it's hard to be serious about guys in skirts, leggings, and pompoms carrying weapons.

Greece?
ReplyDeleteMum has always found those outfits quite funny too.
She found this info for the curious https://theculturetrip.com/europe/greece/articles/a-brief-sartorial-history-of-the-greek-fustanella/
This would make quite the dance routine.
ReplyDeleteTeeHeeHee...It made us giggle!!
ReplyDeleteGuarding the monument of the unknown hero is something serious, but the ritual is funny. What can I do? I smile. 😊

ReplyDeleteIt's hard to take these guards serious in their mini-skirts and pom pom-shoes! HAHA
ReplyDeleteHugs, Pam
Can't help laughter because it does look funny.
ReplyDeleteyes, it looks very funny :)
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should put our police in such outfits. Perhaps we might all take each other a bit less seriously.
ReplyDeleteLove the red hats, too.
