Wordless Wednesday - The Great Belt Bridge, Denmark.

 Lots of photos of the same bridge so I hope you don't find it boring. It's name is Storebaeltstbroen, but more commonly known as The Great Belt Bridge.

It connects two areas of Denmark, Zealand and Funen. The link will tell you more.

There was very little clearance going under it, and I would not have wanted to be on the top deck when we passed under it. These photos were taken from our balcony on deck 14, and there were three more decks higher!

The approach to Skagen. The complete breakwater was built from stone.

If you enlarge the photo you will hopefully be able to see that the complete wall was covered with cormorants.

They are clearer in this photo.

Not sure if these are of any significance. More likely just a modern sculpture.

Wordless Wednesday - Gefion Fountain, Copenhagen.

 

The Goddess who created Zealand

The powerful goddess Gefion - who according to the story originated from Norse mythology - was offered as much land in Sweden as she was able to plough during one day and one night by the Swedish King Gylfe. To fulfil this task she turned her four sons into strong oxen. Gefion and the oxen did their job so well that they were able to create Zealand the Island where Copenhagen is situated. This great work left a huge hole in Sweden - where Lake Vänern is placed. On a map you will notice that the outline of Zealand matches the outline of Lake Vänern.

Wordless Wednesday. Aarhus, Denmark.

 

The Lighthouse and Iceberg Houses in Aarhus docklands.I don't think there is an actual lighthouse there, but it has been called that because it overlooks the harbour. The Lighthouse skyscraper was completed in April 2023 and is the tallest building in Denmark. Construction still continues in the area. It is 42 storeys high which is 40 too many for me!
