Arctic Circle Cruise October 2019 - Tromso Part 2.

After we got off the ship in Tromso we had a wander around the town and nearby areas.
Once again, not many words, it is all about the scenery. All of the photos are clearer if clicked on.

This is an old coffee shop/pub. It is completely built from these big old timbers.

Although the reindeer look wild, they are all owned by the local Sami people.

Yes, I know many of you get lots of snow, but it is a novelty to us. This is the view from our ship's balcony.

The snow had stopped and we were getting ready to sail for our next port of Alta.

Arctic Circle Cruise October 2019 - Tromso Part 1.

Our next call was Tromso, well within the Norwegian Arctic Circle.

Again photos, not words of our morning arrival.
I noticed on the last post that the photos are not coming out as clear as they should unless they are clicked on.

Wordless Wednesday - Snow.

I know snow is no big deal to a lot of people, but where I live an inch is a snowstorm so please humour me!
The first three were taken from the ship's balcony in port in Tromso, Norway.
Yes, I even had to take a photo of my footprints in the snow!

Alta, Norway. We were searching for the Northern Lights with our Sami guide/driver and only found a snowstorm that night. The snow plough was not far ahead of us and we stopped by the road when the sky cleared, but no Lights.
There was a foot of snow in three hours. The depth on the side of the road is about three feet. Ivor is holding my walking stick down into it.
It was fun throwing snowballs though!

Wordless Wednesday - Tromso, Norway.

Mid June, and yes, it was as cold as it looked.

Norwegian Fjords June 2015 - Tromso Ashore.

Our first stop when going ashore was to the Polar Museum which is part of the University of Tromso museum.
This museum shows how life was like in the Arctic and the way the Sami lived.

After walking around the harbour where the museum is situated, we next went to the Arctic Cathedral which can be seen in the distance.

The Cathedral is very striking with it's unusual shape. To find out more about it go to here.

Tromso cantilever road bridge.

Once we had crossed the bridge we had some time to walk around the older part of the city.

It is reassuring to see your ship is still docked in the distance!

Snow on the mountains from the snowfall two days before our arrival.

And then it was time to head off again, this time to the Lofoten Islands.

The Midnight Sun.
Both of these photos were taken at a minute to midnight and the sun was well above the horizon sitting above a bank of cloud.
The first was taken using the sunset setting and the second using the auto setting.
